About the Author
Rob Cunningham, author of this course Rob Cunningham has enjoyed an extensive and successful career in information technology and is currently a computer systems analyst in Tallahassee, FL. His intellectual interests are wide-ranging. After receiving his bachelor's degree in music from Duke University in 1970 and pursuing further study at the Juilliard School, he remained active as a pianist and especially as a composer, developing a highly original, complex, and chromatic Romantic style, which was realized in a profusion of works for various media (more information). He obtained a master's degree in composition from Georgia State University in 1995 and a Ph.D. in music theory from Florida State University in 1999. His doctoral dissertation analyzes "Harmonic Prolongation in Selected Works of Rachmaninoff, 1910-1931" (UMI Number 9922657). His book Sergei Rachmaninoff: A Bio-Bibliography was published by Greenwood Press in 2000.

This course, originally developed as a face-to-face seminar, integrates ideas drawn from decades of observation, analysis, and study of philosophy, current events, social science, history, and psychology. It reflects his belief that through careful logical investigation we can obtain a much clearer and profound understanding of the nature of human action, its consequences for the actor and for others in society, and the institutions most conducive to the life and well-being of human beings.     Continue...
