Who Belongs to an Oppressed Group? (optional material)
Females constitute a majority of the population and as such may be subject to irrational discrimination. In addition, many individuals may be treated unjustly because they are members of black, Hispanic, or other ethnic minorities. Others may suffer unfair discrimination or harassment based on sexual orientation, marital status, age, national origin, or religion. Even white males frequently view themselves, rightly or wrongly, as victims in the age of "affirmative action." If individuals identify themselves in terms of such categories, then all can aspire to "victim status."
