On Attempted Interpersonal Comparisons of Value (optional material)
We should not be misled by the fact that the scales are drawn side by side here for convenience. One could also have drawn Crusoe's value scale above that of Friday, thus giving the impression that all of Crusoe's utility preferences were higher than those of Friday—or vice versa.

Interpersonal comparisons are meaningless and invalid, not only with regard to the subjective values of praxeology, but also with regard to the objective values explored in ethics—since relative rankings of objective value reflect the entities or conditions that a single individual must act to gain and/or keep in order to maintain or enhance his or her life.
