Earlier it was observed that the existence and nature of a part of an organism (such as a heart) or a life-made entity (such as a beaver dam or automobile) are explained by life requirements of the living entity. That observation can now be reframed using the concept of need: the needs of the organism explain the existence and nature of such functional entities. Open Suggested Reading Window
