Causality

The principle of causality states that every action must be caused by the entity or entities that act and must therefore be consistent with the nature of the entity or entities. We can express it succinctly: entity action. This principle is a logical consequence of two of our previous observations:

  1. Every action requires an entity or entities that act; and

  2. An entity cannot act in a way that is inconsistent with its nature.
This view is contrary to one prevalent among some philosophers, who claim that actions are caused by previous actions: action action (?).      Next page
